ASK AARON - November 2000 Answer

From John, VA

Do I need to send a note to an agent when I am submitting my composite sheet?

Dear John:

You should always send a short note when submitting your comp card to an agent. Make sure that it can easily be read by the agent. If your handwriting is great, then send a hand written note. If not, make sure it is typed.

Let the agent know that you are a fresh face in the area. I think that is a great way of saying that you are new to the area. This wording is especially helpful to those who have never worked before. Then you really are a fresh face in the area. Agents, photographers and art and creative directors are always looking for new people.

Let them know that you will call them in four days just to make sure the package arrived and to discuss representation. Keep the letter short and to the point. They do not have much time to read letters.

I have always heard that actors/models should not call agents on Mondays or Fridays. After the weekend, there is a lot of things for agents to do on Monday, and people want to get out of the office as early as possible on Friday. I would try calling a new agent on a Wednesday or Thursday.
