From Jason, MA

A photographer is interested in shooting with me for either TFP (Trade For Print) or paid shoot. I much prefer getting paid, but have no idea what to charge. Any suggestions?

Dear Jason:

You might want to call a local agent and ask them what the customary hourly rate is for your area. My guess would be somewhere between $50-$100/hour. You should also ask what the usage will be for the shot. Will this be a poster, billboard, or a newspaper or magazine ad? If it is one of these high exposure formats, then you can ask for a bonus.

Jason, at this point, don’t worry so much about the money, but instead, make sure you get a copy of the shot. If you get a chance to read my book, it will help you with all of the high exposure information. You can read 2 chapters free and order the book from my site.
