ASK AARON - November 2004 Answer

With much gratitude and appreciation, I would like to say thank you. Your professional workshop, as well as your book, How to Become a Successful Commercial Model, provided invaluable information that made Nadia's success possible.”

From Jeff, SD

I am 22 years old good looking guy, and have been interested in modeling for a few years. I am 6'3"/200lbs blond hair (short straight) and brown eyes. I never seem to look good in photos. Do you think I can still try and be a model?

Dear Jeff:

Your height does take you out of the most popular height for commercial print, but with commercial modeling you never know what kind of look is needed. It would be hard to match you up as a husband and wife if the woman cast for the job is only 5’4”. There would be a huge height difference. Sometimes that can be worked out with having a model stand on a “apple box” which is a wooden crate that models and actors stand on to make them look taller. But, in most cases they would find a guy is more like 5’10” – 6’0” tall.

Having said that do not give up. Sometimes they need someone who is 6’3” in a shot. If you have learned how to put together great commercial photographs then you will be considered for the job. For people who don’t photograph well, they should read my book, How to Become a Successful Commercial Model. I spend 26 pages talking about how to prepare and practice before the photo shoot (so you will look comfortable) and learn how to put together strong commercial photos that will grab the attention of agents, photographers art directors and creative directors at the advertising agencies. Best of luck to you.
