What is the best way to memorize a script? Even though I have performed many, many times, I still have a hard time memorizing. What do you recommend?

Dear Janice:

There are many techniques that actors use to memorize their scripts. Some actors will record their lines onto a tape recorder, and constantly listen to them. It can also be helpful to only record the lines prior to yours, so you can learn when you should begin. Some people like to write them down on a piece of paper. I have even heard of people listening to their lines on the tape recorder while falling asleep. I like to read the lines over and over again until they just flow naturally, without sounding memorized. The important thing is to try different ideas until you find one that helps you memorize the script.
