ASK AARON - July 2005 Answer

“I want to say again how much I enjoyed the Boot Camp. The knowledge I gained was invaluable. As we briefly discussed, [my daughter] Brittany is modeling with a local agency; however, your workshop helped get some basic questions answered - answers that I had been unable to get up to that point. I always felt rushed when dealing the agent. After learning from you, I have a better idea why the agents sound so rushed. However, those days are now over. Your workshop afforded me the opportunity to bring it all together. I now feel a lot more confident and better prepared to assist my daughter with achieving her dreams and goals.

It was such a joy meeting you. I can tell, you are such a genuine and kind person. Please know if there is anything I can do here in Georgia to help you. Just let me know.”

From Angela, IL

I got approached by a company who wants to purchase a few of my photos for a print ad. Is there anything I need to know about the photographers rights?

Dear Angela:

Since the photographer owns the rights to your shots, you need to contact him/her and talk about working out a financial arrangement. You need to know how it is going to be used – will it run in a high exposure format (poster, billboard, side of a bus) or just in a newspaper, magazine etc… You should also find out how long they would like to run the ad, 12, 24, 36 months, or do they want a buy out – where it can be used forever. You should be compensated more for high exposure usages and for 3-years or buy out usage.

All of this info is discussed in my book, "How to Become a Successful Commercial Model". You can read 2 chapters free and order the book from this site.
