ASK AARON - September 2005 Answer

“I would like to say at this time that your seminar was very valuable to me and my daughter. You gave us so much information that I feel very prepared for entering this industry. I would also highly recommend your book. It has been a great reference tool for us.

I really appreciated how relaxed you made everyone, and how you made it so easy to ask any and all questions. I especially liked how you took a great amount of time to make sure each question was answered, and that you never tried to rush things along. I hope you continued success and hope to benefit from your talent and sharing of your knowledge.”

From Lori, England

I was told that you have to be a minimum of 5'9" to be considered for runway modeling. I know that Kate Moss is under 5'9", so is it just the confidence and determination that gets you on top?

Dear Lori:

Kate Moss is the only supermodel I heard of who is under 5’9”.

The reason for the height restriction is because the designers make samples of their clothes in sizes that they believe will make their clothes look the best. So, the models have to be able to fit into the sample sizes.

There are always exceptions to every rule, but it is pretty much unheard of for a runway model to be under 5’9”.

Don’t dismiss the idea of doing commercial modeling. There are many beautiful models doing commercial print. You see them in Lands End and other types of catalogues. I would never give up on your dreams, but just keep in mind that if you don’t have the right stats for fashion, it will be very difficult to work as a supermodel.
