"Ask Aaron" - July 2007 Answer

“I booked my first job on my own. I was thrilled! But when I read the contract, I knew from reading your book that the terms were wrong. My agent, my teacher, and the producer were all telling me to "just do it," but I had a bad feeling about it. "How to Become a Successful Commercial Model" was the only objective, authoritative source I could turn to when everyone had their own agenda. The information I gathered from your book gave me the courage to stand up for myself and negotiate for the terms I knew I deserved. I would have sabotaged my career if it weren't for Mr. Marcus.

From Wendy, FL

I have read a lot about what models must do in order to work in the industry, but what I don't see are helpful tips on being a good model. Such as, what do photographers expect of a model or how to work in front of a camera. Are there any books that will teach me what I need to do when on a set?

Dear Wendy:

For commercial modeling, there are specific techniques that I discuss in my book that will help prepare you for your photo shoot. The main object for commercial modeling is having the ability to show real expressions and emotions.

A short synopsis of the exercise is to think of real experiences in your life that will give you the right emotions the photographer desires. That will help you create strong and believable looks. That could range from being sick, to just winning the lottery.

How to Become a Successful Commercial Model, will be invaluable to you, and teach you everything you need to know to enter and work in this business. If you order the book from my site, www.howtomodel.com, you will even get a list of over 130 agents throughout the US free.

Best wishes. Aaron Marcus
