"Ask Aaron" - January 2008 Answer

“Recently, I attended the Aaron Marcus Acting/Modeling Boot Camp. Even though I have had some experience as an extra in movies and TV, I was able to walk away with valuable information to help me pursue my interest in commercial work. I really enjoyed Aaron's honest, down to earth, and humorous approach in presenting the information to a very heterogeneous group of individuals. I particularly enjoyed learning about special techniques to use during a shoot. His expertise and obvious integrity not only validated my interest in the field, but made me realize that I really am capable of having a successful career in commercial modeling.”

From Grisele, GA

I have purchased your book and find it very informative. I work with different agents now and would like to increase my bookings. I will be sending my comp cards to ad agencies as you suggested. I have two questions for you. What should I say in my letter and should I give them my agents name and phone number or just work with them myself?

Dear Grisele:

Thanks for the kind words. In the cover letter, make it short and to the point. Here is a short sample note.

I want you to have my newest head shot and comp card. I am a fresh face in this area (this is an especially good if you have not done much work before). Please keep me in mind for future (pick your area) TV/radio commercials and commercial modeling projects.

You can contact me through (name of agent and phone number).

Hope we get a chance to work together in the near future.

Take care. Name

Grisele, I would send things through an agent if they are in the location of the ad agency. You don’t want to by-pass an agent you are working with. They will not be very happy about losing the commission. Also, the agent will know what to properly charge for a project, especially if it is in a high exposure format.

Best wishes. Aaron Marcus
