"Ask Aaron" - July 2008 Answer

“After using the information from your book I got cast in two print jobs: one for the U.S. Army, and one for Target Department Stores. Thanks so much for writing this great book.”

From Lori, GA

I have done some runway and a few photo shoots for local stores, but I can't seem to get nearly the amount of work that I desire. Can you help me?

Dear Lori:

Here are a few ideas that I believe will be very helpful to you.

Are you trying to get fashion or commercial print work. If it is fashion jobs you are seeking, then you must be between 5’9” and 6’0”, and must be a 34/24/32. If not, it will be very difficult for you to get serious fashion work. If commercial print work interests you than you need to put together a great composite sheet.

Great composite sheets are not just photos that make you look wonderful, but you want to have great commercial shots. That is where most people fail. Not having great commercial photos is what keeps most people from getting work.

In my book I devote 26 pages to discussing head shots and composite sheets. Here is one piece of info that will be invaluable to you. Every photo you take must look like an ad. Every shot on your comp card should tell a story. Showing a variety of emotions and expressions will grab the attention of agents and photographers. It will allow them to see that you can take directions and offer them many choices. They will be able to see that you can show believable looks.

In my book I give a homework assignment that will teach you how to prepare before your session. You should also find agents in the largest city that is closest to you. You will also learn in my book how to get photos taken free and even market yourself and get work on your own.
